I had a pleasant surprise on Saturday when reading the Football Echo. Everton's Lee Carsley who is very active with his local Down Syndrome branch in Solihull has decided to get involved with some fundraising for the Liverpool branch.
Being a committee member and a big evertonian I am delighted with this.
All the squad were given an exclusive Planet Hollywood leather jacket when the Blues had a training break in New York recently. Lee decided to get his autographed by his team-mates and will auction it on Everton’s official website.
He said in the Football Echo report - “The jacket has been signed by the first team squad to raise money for the Downs Syndrome Association of Liverpool.”
“Hopefully I can meet up with them in the future, give them a nice cheque and see what they are going to do with the money.
“I’ve not done anything with the Liverpool branch yet but it’s something I want to put right. I set mine up in Birmingham with two or three other mums and dads and we sowork closely together in our area in the Midlands.
Carsley was a founder member of the Down’s Syndrome branch in Solihull four years ago, his eight-year-old son Connor was born with the condition.
I'm sure the jacket will raise a lot of money for Down Syndrome Liverpool and the committee look forward to meting Lee and thanking him for his efforts. Hopefully we can show him the type of work we do here in Liverpool and vice-versa with his group in Birmingham.
After all our aims are to raise awareness about Down's Syndrome, and, away from the charity work to help Everton get back in to Europe!!
Thanks Lee
